This round’s 156 grain projectile is loaded to a muzzle velocity of 2,444 fps (21.75” test barrel), granting it a muzzle energy of 2,069 ft lbs. With that kind of pep in its step it demonstrates a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.456 (G7 0.230), which keeps its trajectory above 1,600 fps at 500 yards. This bullet carries four digits’ worth of energy until the 440 yard mark, but we suspect a sharpshooter like yourself could easily anchor a deer past that point using this round.
Sellier & Bellot made this round’s bullet the traditional deer hunter’s preferred soft point. Its flat meplat exerts impressive impact energy just before it commences rapid deformation. The soft point flattens out and wobbles around as it punches a progressively wider wound cavity into soft flesh, and its copper alloy jacket prevents excessive fragmentation from making that injury too shallow.
Sellier & Bellot exclusively loads brass cases, which they draw themself and furnish with non-corrosive Boxer primers and uniform charges of clean burning propellant.
